How can I recover my Microsoft Office account? ›

The recovery form is available at https://account.live.com/acsr. Collect as much information as you can about any Microsoft services you may have used with this account. The more information you can include when filling out the form, the better the chance you'll have of regaining access to your account.

Step 1: Go to www.office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup. Step 2: Sign in with your Microsoft account, or create one if you don't have one. Be sure to remember this account so that you can install or reinstall Office later, without a product key.

Microsoft accounts are for personal use, and for accessing services like Outlook.com, Xbox or Skype. Microsoft work and school accounts are for organizations that use Microsoft 365 for business.

The quickest way to get your account unlocked is by requesting and entering a security code online. If you haven't tried unlocking your account online, we recommend you start there. Tip: If your security code doesn't work, make sure you enter the numbers in the body of the message, and not the numbers in the header.

Go to office.com and in the upper right-hand corner select Sign In. Enter your Microsoft personal, work or school account and password.

You activate Microsoft 365 by signing in with a Microsoft account. If we detect your Microsoft account, we'll show it on this screen. After you sign in, your product is added to your Microsoft account, so that you can reinstall it later, or manage your new subscription, without a product key.

Sign in to download Microsoft 365 or Office

After signing in, follow the steps that match the type of account you signed in with. From the Microsoft 365 home page select Install apps. Select Install (or depending on your version, Install apps>).

Sign in to the security settings page with your Microsoft account email address and password. Carefully check all phone numbers, alternative email addresses, and security questions and answers associated with your Microsoft account. If any of the above are outdated or incorrect, make sure to update them.

If you're constantly being prompted to log in to your Microsoft account there are a few ways this can be resolved: You can reset the Windows Credential Manager. For Word or Outlook you can sign out of your account once then it should resolve. For Outlook you can change the security settings.

Clear Office Credentials: Corrupted credentials stored on your computer can cause login issues. Here's how to clear them: Windows: Close all Office applications. Search for "Credential Manager" and open it. Under "Windows Credentials", find entries related to Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 and remove them.
